…. how can homeopathic remedies bought over the counter by a patient possibly work? What is holistic about that? Surely the unqualified patient has just guessed without getting the so-called tailored remedy?
“Homeopathy has never said it was holistic”

You’re kidding, right?

On virtually every single quack website this is exactly what is claimed. It’s for this reason that homeoquacks claim it can’t be clinically tested in the way every other medicine has to be.

I find the Daily Mail nasty (particularly Littlejohn) so I have not read it for a long time. Is it for or against quackery? I have no idea.

What is going on? People are dying in the hundreds in this country every year, because of a lack of funding for PROVEN treatments.
In 2000, the UK Parliamentary Select Committee on Science and Technology issued a report on complementary and alternative medicine.
It reported that “any therapy that makes specific claims for being able to treat specific conditions should have evidence of being able to do this above and beyond the placebo effect”.
According to Professor Matthias Egger, from the University of Berne, and Swiss colleagues from Zurich University and a UK team at the University of Bristol, homeopathy in particular has no such evidence.
They compared 110 trials that looked at the effects of homeopathy versus placebo with 110 trials of conventional medicines for the same medical disorders or diseases, including trials for treatment of asthma, allergies & muscular problems.
So just why is our government insisting on wasting resources on this and other quack so called medicines?

Seriously. They’re full of crap. They know that unpatentable cures exist for things such as lowering cholesteral (who the heck would want to take a cholesteral lowering drug with loads of side affects? Cholosteral is something not to be messed up), pain, chronic problems, ect. But nope! FDA and pharmaceuticals love their business in making so much money and having the public suffer. To hell with them. Homeopathy and true holistic nutrition is the key to optimal health, along with not eating food with junk like MSG, hydrogenated oils, ect, and the USDA food pyramid is full of crap too. Those people must have low ethical morals to consciously do this. This goes out to the drug companies, certain medical organizations, the oil, dairy, sunscreen, cancer industry all trying to cover things up they know will threaten their profits. Cold greedy fools. What is your honest opinion?
Great point lindajune, however perhaps having great health will result in a less chaotic health care industry, especially among the seniors or the crisis we may have when the baby boomer children become old.
drochem-What about the drugs that and have killed people in the process. What about taking minocycline and developing Lupus, which can occur, or being mis diagnosed for a pill you don’t even need. 200,000 people a year die because of medications.

Cleoppa asked:

First of all, I’m poor. I’ve got a part-time job and am in grad school.

I’m a big fan of holistic medicine and have often given my dog (and myself) herbs and homeopathy and things that have made a big difference in his health.

He’s 13 years old and recently he’s developed some bladder problems. Yesterday he actually started ****** in the house, which is really unusual for him. He gets a number of kidney supporting herbs/supplements (such as cranberry). When I started giving this to him, it seemed to improve a lot, but now it’s gotten bad again.

So my dilemma: I’d really like to take him to a holistic vet. From my preliminary research, the holistic vets in the area are expensive and don’t have immediate openings… One I found that sounded good I’d need to wait about 2 weeks for an appointment.

1. Do you think that, given the symptoms I described, it would be OK to wait a couple weeks to have him seen by a vet?

2. Do you think that a holistic vet would be a good match for his symptoms?

3. Do you think that I should get blood work, urine tests or whatever other tests needs to be done at our regular vet (immediately) and then go to the holistic vet when they have an opening? I really don’t want to do this because that would mean two office visits to two vets and just stepping into a vet’s office is expensive.
But holistic vets can check for all of the things (kidney stones, diabetes, etc.) that conventional vets can, right?

And the vet I’m looking at also uses conventional medicine. It just seems to me like I’ve got more options with a holistic vet.
It isn’t the problem of money that makes me wait 2 weeks. It’s the problem that the earliest appointment I can get with a holistic vet is in 2 weeks.
Majestikmoose: I don’t know where you live, but where I live there seems to be far more people wanting holistic care than doctors to provide it (even though there are a dozen doctors in my area).

So, as much as I don’t like it, the law of supply and demand says that they should be more expensive than a regular vet.

One place that I called that had both holistic and conventional vets charged about twice as much for an office visit wtih the holistic vet.

I just went to see my Chiropractic doctor who started to treat me for various health problems (Allergy, Sinus infection, Yeast Infection) using Homeopathy and whole food diet pills. I was amazed how he would touch certain pressure point while I hold different homeopathy or Pills in one hand while he did the muscles test to see how I respond and selected which combination of pills I need. He was even able to diagnose what was going on my body. I was/am very skeptical and how reliable/accurate these testing are, and how exactly work and why. Can anyone please explain to me? I am so used to going to a conventional doctor who does blood work, or check my symptom by examining me, and prescribe me a medication….but I wanted to try holistic approach, and found this Chiropractor by referral.

Wondering if there is a license or certificate test available to those with the knowledge? Kind of like how a pharmacy tech can read the exam book and then with a little training, can get licensed to be a pharmacy technician. Just wondering if there is anything like that for an herbalist, or holistic medicine or homeopathy.

I know I would still need training from a professional, Im just curious if there is a way or a need to get licensed or certified to do the above. If so where do I go, how do I do it. Cant seem to find a good school online, the only one I found, Clayton School of Holistic Health, had a very bad review, and it was really the only school that seemed to cover herbalism, botany, holistic medicine, homeopathy, etc.
