Melatonin (homeopathic, for sleep)-are there side effects?

Hi all - I have just done a search on Melatonin as I’m wondering if there are any side effects after taking it for approx. 5 years. Nothing much came up and “FDA” was mentioned because they have done a new study on it (couldnt find it). I also take other herbs and just have the feeling that one of these need to be examined for side effects (just intuition as I have no symptoms). I also take St Johns Wort (6 years, 1,400mcg/day), Remifemin, High Vit B+other vits/minerals and Progesterone cream-post menopausal, (not Progestin/synthetic). Any answers on these also?? Thanks.

I asked my doctor what the long term effects of melatonin are. He said there haven’t been any studies on it. I take it all the time, and I’ve never had any problems. My doctor seemed to think it was safe.
I know you are not supposed to take Melatonin on a regular basis as it can casue rebound insomnia. Also, it is a hormone - and adding hormones to your body on a regular basis that were not prescribed/or being monitored by a doctor is not the best idea in general.
Check these websites:
(This one has LOTS of studies that have been done!)

do a drug interaction search on drugs.com - you can gain a lot of info that way.
